Research Award for Oleksii Bashkanov

Our new colleague Oleksii Bashkanov has received the FIN Research Award for students. The award is given by the Faculty of Computer Science (FIN) of the Otto-von-Gueircke University Magdeburg for graduate students who are already particularly active in research during their studies. Oleksii was able to publish two research papers as first author in 2019, which is a very exceptional achievement for a graduate student.

The first paper was written within the BMBF project AVATAR at the STIMULATE research campus. It was published with the title "VR Multi-user Conference Room for Surgery Planning" at the 18th Annual Meeting of the German Society for Computer and Robot Assisted Surgery (CURAC). A second work on the topic "Exploiting OpenStreetMap-Data for Outdoor Robotic Applications" was developed in cooperation with the Software Technology and Robotics Group at the TU Bergakademie Freiberg (Prof. Sebastian Zug) at the IEEE International Symposium on Robotic and Sensors Environments. Oleksii also recently received a 3-year scholarship from the state of Saxony-Anhalt for the preparation of a PhD thesis.
