Computer-assisted surgery is an interdisciplinary research field that builds a bridge between surgery and computer science. It represents a set of methods which use computer technology to support preoperative planning, the actual surgery, and postoperative assessment.

This lecture will offer an overview of computer-assisted surgery. After an introduction of fundamentals, the state of the art in computer-assisted surgery is presented on the basis of clinical examples. Following topics are adressed:

Seminar

There is a seminar in addition to the lecture in form of two compact courses (Blockseminar). They will take place on 2-3 December 2017 and 13-14 January 2018.

The number of participants is limited.

Exam

Successful participation in the seminar is necessary for the admission to the examination. Due to the high number of students attending the course, the examination will be conducted in written form. The date of the examination is Monday, 29 January 2018, 12am-2pm (12.00 - 14.00 Uhr), Building 03, room 315.
