Description

Why do perfectly trained pilots crash their airplanes? Why do power plant operators ignore system alarms? Can we trust automated vehicles? How does the appearance of robots influence our attitude towards them and our behavior?

These are some of the questions which the discipline Human Factors deals with. Human Factors uses knowledge of human abilities and limitations to design systems, organizations, jobs, machines, tools, and consumer products for safe, efficient, and comfortable human use. This course focuses in particular on selected topics of human-machine interaction.

Students will learn psychological basics of human-machine interaction and get an overview of psychological research methods. Moreover, they will learn to identify human factors problems, assess the quality of scientific work, and develop a study design for studying a human factors research question.

At the end of the course, we will hold a (mini) conference where the students will present their posters. The poster will present the study design for one of the Human Factors research questions. To enable the students to develop study designs by themselves, the theoretical background will be provided in first half of the single course units (lecture part). In the second half of the course units, students will present scientific publications to selected topics (seminar).

No registration is required.
