Several virtual environments are immersive and intuitive spaces but the design of edition and navigation interfaces is complex because of the diversity of interaction devices and tasks to realize.
Direct-touch tabletop devices offer intuitive interactions but limited number of degrees of freedom. TEAMViz (Tabletop Environment Augmented with Mural Visualization) has been designed in order to cover the interaction needs in 3D environments. TEAMViz systems combine interactions performed through a 2D view of virtual scene displayed on a tabletop device and interactions through a 3D perspective view of the same scene displayed on a wall screen. A complex issue in TEAMViz is the design of interactions because of the combination of multiple input devices and multiple views (of the same virtual scene) displayed on distinct display surfaces. In this presentation, I will talk about the design space developed for the designing interactions in the TEAMViz. Later, I will present several navigation techniques that have been developed in order to navigate in the 3D vertical view of a TEAMViz.
Rami Ajaj is currently working at the LIMSI-CNRS lab in Orsay, France. He has obtained a PhD in Computer Science in the same lab and at the University of Paris-Sud 11 in November 2009. During his PhD, he has been working on combining interactions performed through a 2D view of a virtual scene projected on a tabletop device and interactions performed through a 3D view of the same virtual scene projected on a vertical screen. His research interest include human-computer interaction, tabletop interactions, 3D user interfaces and, virtual and augmented reality. He is also interested in art-science collaborations and has participated in several projects that have involved scientists and artists.
