This talk will provide a brief overview of recent research in my innovations in visualizations research group. Since we are investigating both information visualization and its possible application on tabletop displays, I will discuss both of these topics. However, since one of the challenges and one of the most exciting aspects of tabletop interface research is that there are many fundamental interaction issues still to be understood and addressed. Thus while we are working towards creating information rich applications for interactive tabletops much of the research I will talk about is those fundamental interaction issues.
Sheelagh Carpendale is a Professor at the University of Calgary who holds a Canada Research Chair in Information Visualization and a NSERC/iCORE/SMART Industrial Research Chair in Interactive Technologies. She directs the Innovations in Visualization (InnoVis) research group in the Interactions Lab at University of Calgary. Her research focuses on improving access to, and exploration and manipulation of information through developing better understanding of day to day information practices. Her research in information visualization, collaborative visualization, and interaction on tabletops and large displays, draws on her dual background: Computer Science (PhD, Simon Fraser University) and Visual Arts (Sheridan College and Emily Carr, College of Art).
