Lecture in EnglishThis new course is especially devoted to the design and development of Post-WIMP or so called Natural User Interfaces (NUI), which are grounded in our experiences with the real world. A special focus is laid on three-dimensional user interfaces and associated devices as well as 3D interaction techniques. Applications of Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality and interactive 3D graphics in general play an ever increasing role in industry, medicine, digital engineering, edutainment and gaming. Another focus is laid on interactive surfaces, especially tabletops. Here you will be acquainted with pen-based and multitouch interaction techniques, recent technologies and applications. Other advanced interaction topics covered in this course comprise gestural interfaces, tangible interaction and gaze-supported UIs. In all areas you will gain knowledge on basic hardware setups, tracking technologies, interaction principles, application examples as well as basic frameworks or toolkits in the respective area. The accompanying course will be in form of a research seminar devoted to reading, understanding, presenting and discussing cutting edge and seminal literature in the field.

The course is planned as a complimentary research seminar. Participants will read, discuss and present recent and relevant papers related to the topics of the lecture. Our goal is to make you aware of cutting-edge literature, about scientifif activities in these fields and about how to read and write a good research paper. Download course material and assignment sheets here (restricted access).
This modul will be completed by an oral examination. The successful participation in the courses is a prerequisite for the completion of this module.
