"Introduction to Simulation" (ItS) is a 2V+2Ü course held in the winter term 2001/02 at the Fakultät für Informatik of the Universität Magdeburg.

Summary

ItS is a course designed to give students a basic knowledge of simulation and to provide them with first experience of using a simulation package.

Some experience in programming and knowledge of first-year applied mathematics are recommended for this course.

It is planned to offer both lectures (Vorlesungen) and exercise classes (Übungen) in English and in German.

The schedule of topics in ItS is planned as follows:

  1. Introduction to Simulation and Modelling
  2. Random Variables
  3. Discrete-Event Simulators
  4. Random Number Generation
  5. Input Modelling
  6. Stochastic Petri Nets
  7. Output Analysis
  8. Verification and Validation
  9. Modelling with Ordinary Differential Equations
  10. Solving Ordinary Differential Equations
  11. Partial Differential Equations
  12. Monte-Carlo Simulation
