Introduction to Simulation - Goals

"Introduction to Simulation" (ItS) ist a 2V+2Ü course held in the winter term 2001/2002 at the Fakultät für Informatik of the Universität Magdeburg. It corresponds to the course "Simulation 1" in the Studienordnungen. The exercise classes (Übungen) will be held in a lecture style.

The goals of ItS are:

• To learn the basics of three important classes of simulation:
  • Discrete-event simulation,
  • Monte-Carlo simulation
  • Continuous simulation
• To learn to use the simulation software SIMPLEX3
• To gain experience in solving engineering problems using simulation
• To provide the basis for more advanced simulation courses, such as
  • Diskrete Simulation
  • Kontinuierliche Simulation
  • Simulation Project
  • Advanced Discrete Modelling
  • Simulationssysteme

After completing this course, students will know the basics of simulation and modelling of both continuous and discrete systems. This prepares them for

• Softwarepraktikum
• Industriepraktikum
• Laborpraktikum
• Diplomarbeit

ItS is thus designed to be a general entry to simulation studies in Magdeburg. Students planning to take simulation courses are strongly recommended to attend ItS.
